FIFA have made a About-face on their controversial plans

FIFA has officially abandoned its highly divisive proposal to create a twenty billion dollar company that would manage the governing body's commercial operations and sell a twenty percent stake to private investors.

Spearheaded by President Gianni Infantino, the ambitious project aimed to raise over four billion dollars through a partnership led by Joshua Kushner's Thrive Capital.

However, the initiative triggered immediate accusations that world football's most prestigious tournament was being put up for sale to outside financial entities.

The proposal faced an intense and rapid global backlash from major confederations, most notably UEFA and Concacaf, with European officials threatening potential boycotts and condemning the move as a dangerous commercial crossing of lines. Internal dissent also fractured FIFA's leadership structure.

High ranking figures, including FIFA chief operating officer Kevin Lamour and senior presidential adviser Carlos Cordeiro, publicly broke ranks and resigned, arguing that the stake sale was a severe misstep that mortgaged the future of the global game without justification.

Acknowledging the heavy friction, Infantino announced a complete retreat, stating that the project had generated deep divisions that no longer served the best interests of the sport.

While FIFA had initially attempted to pitch the venture as a lucrative mechanism to disburse development funds to its 211 national member associations, the mounting political and institutional pressure ultimately forced the organization to scrap the plan entirely.

FIFA leadership now intends to regroup with stakeholders to mend relationships across the international football community.
